Do you think you miss out by never being single, including at uni?

I've been in a relationship with my boyfriend for about 3 years now and we don't really have any problems, but recently I've been wishing that I'd had the chance to be single (single at 15 isn't really the same as single at 18). This isn't helped by the fact that my mum has been telling me that she wants me to be 'free' at uni to meet new people and I started to think that spending so long with my first boyfriend is quite risky (as people say your first rarely works out) and a bit strange as you don't get to experience anything different - I have no idea if this is the best relationship I'll have because I have no comparison. I would not want to lose him however I can't help thinking what it would be like to be 'free' and date and have that exciting first phase of a relationship again.
