Can I make a move on staff members in my college?

Hi all :) I am new to this forum, I find it very interesting though so will hopefullybe back when asking for advice on uni's and courses in the near future. For the moment I want advice on something completely different. For the past few months I have been very attracted to a member off staff at my college. He isn't my lecturer so he doesn't mark my work but he is in a position of power over me you could say. I have had a feeling he might find me attractive but considering there is so much at risk its hard to tell. My friends outside college seem to think i should text him and tell him that i want to sleep with him or do something similar so i find out one way or another if he is interested. My only concern is if he says take that badly can I get into trouble? He dots on me so i am sure he wouldn't mention this to anyone but i think thats why i am scared to make a move cause i am scared what if i get kicked off my course for telling him i want to have sex. What are the rules? does anyone know.
