Ex-relationships are confusing

I contacted my ex today regarding some vicious rumor about him that was being spread online. We chatted for a bit and caught up on life (we have been apart 4 months). He has a new girlfriend, but I am still in love with him and haven't moved on. I never actually told him that, although when he asked me about my love life, I just said I hadn't been seeing anyone as I wasn't over him. We talked about what had happened between us, just little things, nothing big. I told him I missed him in my life, he was my friend before my boyfriend. He then said he had to things to tell me, but couldn't say as it wasn't fair on anyone. He asked me if he'd regret it if he didn't tell me, and I just said that I wanted him to be happy, and if this new girl made him happy, then why bring up anything that might upset him? I can't help thinking that he might feel the same way towards me as I feel towards him? I might just have been conned by the disney movies, and be imagining that this 'thing' he wants to tell me is that he still cares, but would I be wrong in this? I don't want to ruin his relationship, so I just told him to tell me when he felt ready, and have backed off.
