Awkward

First thing this morning: Our 6 year old daughter asks "How was your night?" Me: "Fine thanks. How was yours?" 6 Year old " you sure? I thought you had a headache or something you we re making alot of noise..."

Our 11 and my husband start giggling which sets me off which sets the 6 year old off.

I'm not ashamed or embarrassed really, It's natural.

Should i just leave it alone? Shes a bit young to know about sex right?

Are You Financially Compatible?

You and your lovebug have determined you're totally compatible after talking about whether you want to have children, whether the toilet paper hangs from the front or the back and whether you're Team Pepsi or Team Coke. That's awesome, but have you determined how compatible you are financially?

Let's say Jack and Diane make a similar salary. Diane has a small bank account, no retirement income, a brand new car and new furniture in her apartment. By contrast, Jack has a fully vested retirement fund, a healthy bank account and a nine-year-old car.

It's not hard to see that Jack and Diane view money differently.
Whereas Jack is all about saving for retirement and rainy days, Diane prefers creature comforts. If the couple makes enough to both save and spend, great. But if the couple has to choose or they cannot agree on how much to allocate to each, well…

This potential financial stalemate is why it's important to determine financial compatibility before you sign the lease on an apartment or cut the cake at the wedding reception. Although compatibility in regards to religion, political affiliation and children is important, financial incompatibility most often leads to divorce. Identifying whether you're financially compatible or not isn't the magic cure, but it can give you a fighting chance.

Typically, there are two types of people, the Savers and the Spenders. According to the above scenario, Jack is a Saver while Diane is more of a Spender. Both camps have their extremes and their moderates. For example, an Extreme Saver might save every free dime they have, with possible detriment to their health and safety. They tend to eat cheap processed foods over healthier meals or drive a car in need of repairs rather than a new vehicle. Extreme Spenders don't save anything, sometimes to the point of foregoing financial responsibilities in order to buy what they want.

It's obvious that an Extreme Saver and an Extreme Spender are not financially compatible and could face some serious issues down the road. But those types of issues are relatively rare since both can generally be spotted almost immediately (think Alan Harper meets Peg Bundy). In most cases, it's two moderates or a moderate and an extreme that will meet and have to work through compatibility issues. Moderates in both camps save and spend, it's just a matter of priorities for them. If they both agree on how to save and spend money and on how to handle financial matters, then things are fine. But if there's a disagreement, that's when the ability and willingness to compromise comes into play.

Going back to Jack and Diane, let's pose these three questions:

1. Should a couple maintain a joint checking account or keep personal finances separate?

• Joint accounts

• Separate personal accounts, but a joint account for household bills

• Separate accounts and each pays an equal portion

2. At what amount does a person need to consult his or her spouse before making a purchase?

• $100

• $200

• Never

3. One of you gets a bonus from work. What do you do with it?

• Spend it

• Save it

• Save some, spend some

Savers and Spenders might agree or vehemently disagree on answers to these questions. With the first question, Jack might want to know where all the money is at all times – so he might push for a joint account. On the other hand, Diane might not want Jack to know the extent of her spending so separate accounts would be ideal. Considering the second question, Jack might consider $200 an exorbitant amount to spend without consulting his spouse, but if the expenditure is for new tires or another necessary item, Diane might not bat an eye before writing out a check.

In reality, it's the third question that tends to cause the most battles beyond not having enough money to make ends meet. Spenders want to spend, Savers want to save and sometimes the twain just never meets. The decision can come down to who earned the bonus, which can lead to contentious results and create serious resentment that lingers throughout the relationship.

This is why is it's important for a couple to determine their financial compatibility early on. The sooner the problems are identified, the sooner compromises can be worked out and agreements put into place to handle these matters. Having the information needed to handle difficult situations regarding money is a much better approach than "winging it" and discovering you have a serious, possibly relationship-ending issue.

Just Don't Know

My husband feels when it comes to business matters or furthering myself or career, I don't listen to him. He feels I only listen to others and ignore or disbelieve him when he tells me I should or I could do something. I feel like I listen and respect my husband. I also feel that sometimes be pushes me to advance before I am ready or confident. Now I feel like I am ready to take the next step in my career (a step he pushed me to take last year) now he is like "Whatever."
The latest example: I'm a playwright. Last year (my first year writing) he wanted me to start writing plays for other people. A few months ago I was called out of the blue and asked to write a play for someone. Nervously and trusting God, I said yes. The client loved the play and now I am confident that I can write for others now.

Husband says I wouldn't listen to him and only listen to others that tell me the same things he says. He states this is the pattern in our marriage. I seek his opinion on EVERYTHING but made to feel like I don't care what he thinks or says. What do I do when my husband feels like I can do anything I set my mind to but when I finally decide do it's "Whatever"? He also says I always change my mind about being confident.

Clear Feedback.. Especially from men - I am a wife of a husband who wants to separate

Hi everyone,

I will try to be as brief with this introduction as possible. First some background.. Married 5 years, together for 12. We have a 10 year old daughter.

My husband and I started having issues about 4 years back. He had alot of "online" affairs. (you know, the ones that he claims never got physical - but for us women, the attachment is worse..) I caught him sexting about 5 different women. 2 of which he said that he met up with but never did anything at all, physical... When I approached him with it, he was calloused. He said that he didn't understand why he couldn't have these things on the side, shut his phone down and come home to his real life. He told these women that he wished I were like them, he compliments them, etc. Told them that it's no wonder that their men don't want them with anyone else....and in the same breath, says that he'd love to see me with another man.... He still doesn't understand why that was so hurtful...
After the last woman (that he began to develop feelings for), I had my own affair. Needless to say, he didn't know what to do with himself, wanted a divorce, etc.

Now here we are, a few years later. We've had our share of ups and downs. He tells me that he's leaving, then he doesn't. Then we get stuck in this toxic cycle... It's horrendous.

He told me that he is leaving at the end of the month. But he hasn't done anything to do so. I told him a few months back that if he kept telling me that, at some point - I am going to WANT him to leave...
and now, this is where I find myself.............

I love my husband but I know that I'm no longer in love with him and I don't want this marriage anymore.. Not like this...........

Am I crazy for feeling this way??? I don't know what to think of this. :crying:

Paternity question

Hello all,

I've posted with some marital issues and loved opinions.

A quick recap...combined family, married for 2 years, together 10 yrs. Husband has three daughters, now 17, 19 and 23 (23 yr old from a different mother) Daughter (19) inherited Borderline personality disorder from her mother (serious mental illness). Youngest and oldest daughter normal. Lots of turmoil with 19 year old. Husband has always wanted to be a cool dad and acts more like a friend than a father. He set no boundaries, nor can he identify when the rages (splitting) occur. He denied any mental issues till doctor confirmed (even with mothers history).

Husband has always commented about questioning paternity on oldest daughter. Ex, dead wife was promiscuous, and caught in the act a few times. Both the girls look like their mother, however, there are strong physical attributes the 19yr old lacks from the father that the other two have.

After another huge explosion recently, I made husband and his daughter leave my home. Husband now wants to reconcile and agreed to MC. I don't want his daughter in my life and I see no other way than to divorce him. Husband carries a huge amount of guilt for mother who was never in their lives.

Stepdaughter has gotten physical lately, shoved me in passing in hallway and later after I made them leave my home, she punched my husband as hard as she could in the ear. She spent time in jail for attacking her boyfriend.

In considering reconciliation, I mentioned that his daughter is a danger and will not be allowed in my home. Husband immediately said he could not do this to her....

So lets fast forward and imagine a paternity test revealed HE IS NOT THE FATHER.....what will the feeling be for my husband? Will he feel even more guilty?? Never would I want the daughter to know.

My goal and intent for this test would be for my peace, my possible reconciliation with husband and hopes that he could step back from coddling her behavior like a normal parent should do. I certainly don't want to sever their relationship, I just want no part of her in my life. She is a repeat of her mother, who was incarcerated, violent and destroyed many lives...we learned she abused her current husband and she commit suicide last year.

Should this just be kept a big secret? Or would you want to know, being the father or stepmother?

Maybe I'm being selfish and should just move on with my own life.

penis size of my wifes x is ruining our sex and cuddles

I suspect I will get beat up by women and men over this one and I know it is stupid but I have gone a few years not enjoying sex with my wife. I just joined because I don't know what to do.

We have been married 6 years. The first 3 everything was wonderful.
One night after my wife had been drinking and we had just had sex and somehow we got on the subject of penis size. Mine is above average in size and have never cared much about this thing. I knew she had 8-10 boyfriends before we got married and me about the same amount of girlfriends. I always knew statistically one of her past guys must have had a bigger penis than me and didn't think or care about it.

Anyway she got onto this "funny" story her girlfriends liked about how huge one of her boyfriends had been to the point of them having a hard time getting it in to begin having sex. Her and her girlfriends apparently thought it was funny and still do. She dated the guy for 3 years and almost married him. I know who he is but don't know him well.

I know it is so weak and pathetic but I can't get the though of this guy and her having sex out of my mind. We have talked about and every time it makes things worse. She has said how it wasn't fun, uncomfortable etc. That our sex is the best of her life.

I would appreciate a sincere comment on this. I'm to the point of needing a shrink about it.

Too much time with extended family or is it?

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am married 26 years with 3 children 2 in college 1 still in high school. We have a condo at the beach and after we bought there so did my husbands sister and her husband and then his brother bought a condo there. Every weekend for the past 13 years I have to spend our only free time together on the beach with my husbands family. They have grandchildren now and there are cousins that come on Sundays. It has gotten old. Some Saturday nights they all want to go out to eat. The difference is my husband is only there only on the weekend, my sister in laws stay all summer. I come and go depending on my work schedule and my kids schedules. My one brother in law lives there all summer, the other one takes vacation. They are a very close family and grew up together in a big house in the summer at the beach. I get it, but I feel he is married to me not them and I expect to spend time with my husband alone! not on a beach every weekend with his sister presiding over the family. Ok, she's not the bad but she is the older sister. This has gotten to the point where I just don't feel like going and my husband goes out of his way to make sure he gets there. Am I nuts?

New, and an unusual problem

Good morning marriage community. I'm new to this forum and signed on to get feedback on my unusual problem. I thought all was well with my husband of almost 16 years, despite the long standing issue I've wrestled with regarding him being mostly unemployed. I work hard and have been blessed with my company so I've accepted that I cannot change him, and pay for pretty much everything.

My problem is that last night he had a Freudian slip and said to my son I was going to die soon anyway. Ok, I'm 50 but am in good shape, and am usually told I look 40, and in fact I've always been concerned about his weight, as he is morbidly obese so his statement is not based on fact. Could it truly be a Freudian slip and he wishes me dead?

I thought we were happy, and felt crushed when his only response to his slip was lol, I meant dye your hair.

Do you truly like giving oral?

I am really curious how other women feel about this. Oral sex is such a huge deal it seems these days. If in a relationship and you are not into it, it could be a real deal breaker. My guy says I don't do it enough, but I am not really very motivated to. I have my moments when I want to but most times I rather not. Do you do it because you actually enjoy it, or because it is a request from your partner that you really can't escape? What motivates you to do it?

This is for unsatisfied ladies

I have 2 questions for ya'll. 1. If your sex life was exactly the same but you could achieve multiple orgasms would your life be any different? 2. I know most guys are like zombies during sex but how do you feel about you and your SO talking during sex? Not really dirty more like. How does that feel? I like that. Or do you prefer dead silence?

How do I talk to a man?!

So. A little history. Met my now husband at 18. He was 21. We had a great relationship but I was greedy and wanted more attention. Some days I got none and I was very needy. I broke up with him, he was DEVASTATED. We got back together and he realized I wasn't completely into it and broke up with me. We were still seeing each other a lot and having sex. He wouldn't tell me if he wanted to be with me. Every question I asked him had an "I don't know" answer. I got pregnant. He massively tried to pressure me into abortion. I don't believe in abortion, loved him, and always wanted kids. He stuck with me bc it was the right thing to do. Proposed a few days before we had her and we got married when she was 1.5. He has been unemotional ever since but better. Our daughter is now two and he is a good dad to her. I'm 22 and he's now 26. He used to compliment me a little and hold my hand often, tell me sweet thins, was never mean. Now he barely smiles. We a ct like brother and sister. We go through periods of having great sex with a little happiness. To him being all depressed and distant. He says he isn't depressed and doesn't have many signs. He has interests and can talk about things a lot.
I tell him exactly the things I need from him and he doesn't do them. I could be crying in bed next to him and he'd go to sleep. I don't know what to do. He says he isn't good at talking about things. Help please! Sorry for ranting.
