Awkward trigger moments in public

It happened to me today. Sometimes I can handle a trigger better than others.

Today while watching a movie with my sister in law, my WH and my kids, an affair scene unexpectedly popped up. I triggered. Worst part is that I was sitting too far from the doorway to leave the room so I just kept my head down and pretended I was on my phone and not paying much attention. No idea what, if anything, went through the WH's mind.

Ugh..

Yet again...my wife is threatening divorce...

So we've had a bit of a rocky year with our families, had a baby in June, it's been tough.

She quit her job in August to watch the kid...I thought it would be good...well apparently she was having a "very hard time with it" but I didn't notice anything other than the normal conversations we have. I work from home, we were together every day, she never said a thing (until now, she reminds me daily how i wasn't there for her)

We had a lot of fights about the baby...it was a tough few months of not sleeping, but we got through it ok. everything has been good i thought...

then i find out that she's still having a really hard time not bringing in any cash, feels insecure about being dependent on me financially, and I think is having feelings of worthlessness (even though she does a great job with our boy)

So all of a sudden the past few months she's on this 'you aren't listening to me' thing, where anything, AND I MEAN ANYTHING that i don't listen about...i get an earful...like even if i don't hear her!!!

then today happens...i forgot to call my parents this week even though she kept asking me to...all of a sudden my parents are planning a visit with my wifes parents on sunday - which i had no clue about. i was supposed to stop that from happening apparently.

Any way, big fight comes out of this...she hits me in front of the baby, she is screaming at me in front of the baby, so i leave the house with the dogs to take a walk.

i take full responsibility for everything to try to get the situation to calm down, now she's saying she never asks me to do anything (which is a complete lie, she is on me all the time about EVERYTHING) and that i don't respect her...and i only put myself first...and that she deserves better.

she said if she met me now she never would have married me.

this is the mother of my child telling me this...because i didn't call my parents this week.

we are going to counseling...she goes in there and then just wants to chat about life...not ever get to the issues.

sex toys for women and men

Good evening all, not sure where to post this, but I thought it was interesting.

In another thread a poster reacted negatively to a posted video that showed sex toys form men that were shaped like womens' genitals.

At the same time in most posts people don't seem to have a problem with women using sex toys shaped like penises.

While I could complain about unfairness, the thing is that I get hte same (irrational) reaction. A woman using a dildo seems fine and rather sexy. A guy using an artificial vagina seems, well pathetic some how.

Do lots of people get this reaction? Is there an asymmetry in how male and female sex toys and masturbation are viewed?

(I posted in ladies lounge because the post that got me thinking was by a woman (I think)).

Went on holiday and seem to have upset the guy I'm dating.

  • Thread Starter

I've been dating this guy for about 4 months, it has been going really well. He generally treats me great and is really sweet, respectful and affectionate. I have been a little bit frustrated at how things were moving quite slowly - we only saw each other about once a week at best and he was quite slow to respond to my texts, taking up to a day sometimes. However, in person things were really great and right before Xmas he met my parents and then my extended family and got me a lovely Xmas gift (I didn't get him anything).

After Xmas I went on holiday for 3 weeks and before I left, he talked about how he really wanted me to keep in touch while I was out there and how he was going to miss me. He also called me right before I boarded my flight to say bye. Once I was on holiday however, I decided to just have fun with my friend and I didn't get in touch with my guy for a few weeks, and ignored his attempts to contact me. I also got with another guy in a club while I was away, but I haven't told him this.

When I came home last week, I messaged him to say I was back and he seemed a little bit cold, but said work was really busy for him and asked when he was going to see me. We then didn't speak for a couple of days, which is really unusual for us. We made plans for Thursday night, which he then cancelled because he said he got stuck at work. This turned into a fight because I didn't believe him as he made no attempt to reschedule and is now ignoring my texts.

I'm really upset about all this and really want to get back to the way things were before I left. I'm well aware I messed up and probably hurt his feelings but I don't know how to get through to him now. He's very, very sensitive and quite non-confrontational, so I think he will ignore me for a long time now if not forever.

If anyone has any bright ideas about how to fix this, that would be great.

new , looking and a little upset

long time married here and it has always been a little rocky. Came here because porn has put pretty much an end to our marriage. Looking at retirement now and not looking forward to 24/7 togetherness.
As far as the porn, he is addicted, but would never call himself addicted.
Early on sex was good and porn was even a part of it. But then he gradually came to a point that it was all porn and no relationship. Could easily tell he wasn't with me. So tried to talk to him after he accused me of not wanting sex anymore. Told him it wasn't that I didn't want sex, just not the porn all the time. That I needed him to be with me and make me feel like he was with me and not with some fantasy he was running through his head. Not fight about it no discussion just no more sex. We probably have had sex once after our talk and that wasn't successful and that was at least 4 years ago.
He is still doing the internet porn thing after I go to bed. Like he thinks I don't know.
I feel so bad and so much resentment that he chose his internet *****s over me. I think I actually hate him for that.
It makes our entire life together really difficult.
He has other issues I'm not going into right now too much.
He's a control freak and very very mean and selfish.
So I kind of like to say to some of those in post that I read that kind of think a husband's porn problem is more the wife's problem, YOU ARE SO WRONG. Porn is very damaging.

confused about my marriage

Hi all, I´m new. In a bit of situation and I don´t know what to do.

Long story so I´ll try and keep it brief.

Orginally I´m from the UK, but 5 years ago I was working in Morocco where I met a wonderful Moroccon man. We fell in love but my work contract finished and I moved back to the UK. We stayed in a long distance relationship in separate countries while he finished his masters degree.

After two years we spoke of marriage and moving to live together, but there was an issue. He wanted to marry a Muslim woman and I was an atheist. I didn´t blame him, for a marriage to work, to raise kids etc I think parents need to be on the same religious wavelength. We broke up, but I was heavily depressed and felt I couldn´t live without him, so I started reading about Islam and became convinced. For a while I did genuinely believe Islam was the right way, so I converted and we married last May.

We moved to Spain together since I didn´t want to live in his country, and getting a spouse visa to the UK takes months.

Marriage so far seems perfect. He´s a fantastic husband, cooks cleans, works, treats me well, he takes care of himself, works out. He IS a wonderful man, I can´t find any fault with him. We have so much in common, my family love him, he loves my family. I´d probably be insane to throw away such a ´´happy´´ marriage with such a good man.

Problem is lately I´ve been feeling down. I´ve come to the realisation I´m not actually a Muslim, and no matter how hard Ive tried, I can´t force myself to believe in his religon any more. If my husband found out it would destroy him. Islamically, our marriage would no longer be valid. On a practical level, the marriage woulnd´t work. How can we have kids when dad believes one thing and mum says another?

I wanted to tell him but when I see how happy he is with me, how happy we are togehter, I just can´t. I can´t take his happiness away. I love him too much.

At the same time. I´m living a lie. He doesnñt make me pray or wear hijab, in fact other than muttering some arabic now and again, I barely practice Islam at all.

I have no problem against Islam. I just don´t believe in it.

I´ve been living this lie for some time now, don´t know why its just started to bother me now. I feel a bit depressed.

So yeah... wonderful husband. Can´t bear to destroy him. It´d destroy me too seeing him hurt. Do I just push this issue to the back of my mind and continue as nothing is happening?

2nd Marriage, credit card problems

I recently enter my 2nd marriage to a woman (both in our 50s) who appears to have major problems with money. Approx 1 month prior to our marriage, she informed me that she had 38K in credit card bills. Her car is paid off, but has no other assets. She informed me that she did not expect me to help her pay these credit card bills off. She claimed these bills were the result of her ex husband (but I doubt this now) She was renting an apartment, living alone, with her 2 dogs.
After we married, we moved into my house, which is almost paid off. She takes home about $2500 a month after all taxes, retirement, 401K and insurance is taken out of her check, contributes $200 towards utilities and approx $150 - $200 a month in groceries. I told her not to worry about any other house expenses and put everything else towards her credit card bills. Her other major bills are basically gas, medical bills, and her cell phone. I figured she would have at least $1500 in expendable income to pay her credit cards down, especially since I pay the bill the majority of times when we go out to dinner, or social activities. She makes approx 55K a year and I make about 65K. We keep our money separate (separate accounts for everything) except one joint account for house utilities. I decided this was the best action, based on her financial state. My vision for our future was to have her credit cards paid off in approx 2 years. My house would be paid off by then, we could buy some land together, sell my house, and I would contribute the income from the sale of my home to build our retirement home.
During our first year of marriage, I did not check to see if she was paying down her credit card bills, since I did not want to get drastically involved in her finances. When we sat down to review credit reports after 12 months of marriage, I found that she had not reduced her credit card balances at all, still holding about 38K on the total balances. Apparently she was paying payments and re-charging against the cards. After another nine months later (1 ¾ years into the marriage), I have discovered that she has paid off on some credit cards, but increased balances on others, even though she stated that the cards would not be used. She is still in debt about 37K, even though for the 18 months we have been married, she had approx 25K in expendable income to pay the credit card balances down. Don't ask me what she spent the money on, all I know it was not for my bills. I have talked to her several times about her credit card debts, but she gets upset and informs me that she is paying them off. In reality, she has had almost 2 years of expendable income, with no house payments or car payments from her salary, yet cant reduce the balances of her credits card substantially.
The financial situation seems to be getting worse. I just completed our taxes and found that my wife's take home pay increased about $175 a month for the 2014 year, thru changing her tax status from single to married, reducing her federal tax deductions from her paycheck. Even with this additional money, she has failed to reduce her credit card debt substantially, and we now have to pay uncle sam for taxes this year, instead of getting a refund.
I have always been very financially responsible, had little to no credit card debt, saved regularly, and have excellent credit. My wife is a loving person but I am at the point of making a major decision regarding the future of our marriage. I was especially disturbed when I recently took actions to update my will. I originally had my possessions and assets distributed to my 3 children, but updated my will to include my wife. I was shaken when my wife (who has no assets to speak of) stated that I should be leaving my entire estate to her, to support her, and nothing be awarded to my children until after her death. It was my belief, based on my wife's financial irresponsibility, that nothing would be left for my kids.
I know this probably paints a terrible picture of my wife, but she is a caring person, who cares for my youngest daughter (who lives with us) very much. She has spent some money for things around the house (curtains, blinds, some personal items for my daughter, etc) but it does not add up to a ton of money, not enough to support not reducing her credit card debt. I just believe that her financial behavior is a major issue. I recently had a friend who remarried in his 50s, and ended his marriage based on his wife's financial irresponsibility. There have been a few other bumps in the road lately with our marriage, I am just wondering if I should cut my losses and end the marriage, or stick with it and keep plugging at her money issues. I know the longer I stay in the marriage, the harder its gonna be to walk away.

ladies your opinion

i started to date again after my spouse of years passed away. we are in committed relation ( she is in late 40s, i am almost 60), i think we like each other much. started to be intimate and here is something i need opinion. from previous relation i am used to unrestricted display of affection ( with late one we would have those dirty little secrets, word play, touching private parts, kissing, taking shower together,,, and we both liked it ). love making was mostly foreplay, with oral , touching, massage,,, penetration was just ending. here is where i am puzzled with my current one. she does not like to be touched or naked outside of actual act of sex. would not let me give her oral or touch any other part but nipples ( limited way ). it is turning me off ( have hard time making love ), because i am visual, love foreplay. seems we are not sexually compatible, is there something i can do? i try to adjust to her liking but not sure, i am having doubts if t his will not be deal breaker for us. i like her so much otherwise.

Myth or Fact Question

I've been entertaining a few questions in my head I wanted to ask the experts on TAM about. I want your opinion on weather you think these are mere myths/rumors or facts you can attest to from personal experience:

1. It's better if you delve deep into all materials that remind you of your eX [Songs, Movies, Places, Pictures] until you get fed up with them during the grieving process, instead of immediately isolating and removing them from your life. Hearing a song @ the mall that meant something to both of you will have less of an impact then if you're "tired" of hearing it.

2. Having an emotional reaction (good or bad) after seeing a picture, an email or getting contacted by your eX after months or years of NC is a sign that you haven't gotten over them.

3. Being in the right state of mind after overcoming loss and falling in love again with someone new, will mean you will never feel hurt over being dumped by your eX ever again.

4. There will come a day where you can see a picture of your eX that left you, with someone new and be genuinely happy for them.

5. Divorce is an even bigger emotional burden the 2nd time around because of all the thought that went into your next marriage after the first one that failed. [If you're the one being dumped twice that is].

I'm interested in hearing your opinion on #1. The rest of the Q's have been lingering in my mind and I thought I'd share them.

I won't have sex until I'm in a relationship!Do I stand a chance in the dating world?

  • Thread Starter

Hello people!

I prefer a bit of more traditional approach to dating and I won't have sex without a commitment and a deep connection. I also like a bit of courtship and romance.

What do you guys think? Do you think I'm being entitled or that I sound dis-empowered? Maybe even needy? I feel like I just know what I want now :)

I tried a more modern approach to sex/dating once and it ended up in me getting hurt and feeling used. I realised I'm just not cut out to have sex like that e.g on third date etc. It's not for me but I understand that it works for others

I'll admit I now have a much harder time finding men who are willing to wait and I some ways think I've got a lot of work to find someone who respects this. I've dated many guys so far who were not willing to wait. I've only had one boyfriend in my life because of this and I'm 24. So if you do the maths I've slept with 2 men in my life.

How long would you guys realistically wait? And ladies you too?

Thanks!
