Confused and scared about falling in love...

Heyy guys

I've known this guy for a couple years and though we aren't "official" we are around together often. We are close friends but we are attracted to each other at the same time. He's tried to make a move more than once but I kept brushing him off because I don't feel ready, only because I haven't been in a proper relationship before and feel scared of the prospect of falling hard for him.

It's fair to say we know each other very well but I don't think I know him as well as I'd like to to get involved with him (but that's because I was scared of getting involved in the first place). I'm also a virgin (because I like the idea of saving myself for the one I love so please don't judge) so I'm pretty experienced.

Out of the blue, he proposed to me recently. I was scared ****less. You don't understand how shocked and scared I was because it was unexpected and I felt rushed and not ready. Plus, we're not "intimate" and I think we should get to know each other better. I don't know if I love him or not because I'm fighting against the idea. I wanted to "have fun" and not get tied down so soon and at a young age like this (I'm 18).
I think most of my reservations toward him stem from the fact that I don't know him as well as I'd like to and because he's extremely good-looking. I feel so out of his league and it was something many girls have snidely commented on before which doesn't make me feel great. I'm only average looking (fair, black hair, brown eyes, 5'1) and he's got the typical European/American looks and is quite tall so I feel way out of my league. We're like opposites and I don't know if we match. I can't help thinking I'm not good enough or that he'll change his mind sometime and I'll just end up hurt.

I told him that it was too soon (my dad heard about his proposal and nearly beat him up because he didn't want me to get married at 18 or any time soon for that matter), but he insisted that we could get engaged for the time being and get to know each other better in the process. He said marriage can wait a few years. But what if I'm wrong about this? I do have strong feelings towards him but I keep supressing them, saying that they're just hormones. I've always dreamt of falling in love but now that it can become a reality I'm just scared :o I know you probably think I'm just being stupid and need to toughen up but I can't help it.

I don't know how to tell him that I'm willing to reconsider his proposal (I flat out refused but he keeps asking me again and again) after a year or so and after we spend more time together, but I think that there must be a point where he will just give up thinking I'm simply not interested. I don't want to keep him hanging but I also don't want to lose him. It's all very selfish I know :o (that's why I'm making the post anonymous)

How can I be sure that this is the guy for me and that I actually love him and it's not an infatuation/lust?
How can I get to know him better because he's going abroad to Poland soon to study and I probably won't see him for 2 years except for holidays?

Thank you to anyone who contributes or helps!

Am I being too paranoid?

I just need to get a load of my chest...
I'm a 17 y/o girl and I've been worrying all day!
I'm really worried about my friend. I woke up this morning with most horrible feeling that something had happened to him or that today wasnt going to be a normal day. So I told him and he said 'don't worry nothings going to happen to me'. But he's been gone for a 4 hours after he said he'd be back in 10-15 mins... He doesn't usually do that. I'm just worried incase somethings happened to him, he's always breaking something or the other but still. I just hope nothings happened to him and I'm just being very paranoid about it all... We both like each other and we both know that and we both care for each other a lot and I just :cry2:

Sorry for the awfully long message... But do you guys just think I'm being too paranoid? :S

Girl is beautiful but thinks she's ugly ..

Hi..

A girl mate of mine doesn't believe the fact that she is beautiful and calls herself ugly.
She recently got out of a relationship so my guess would be that it is due to that, partly, but I don't know what to say as she doesn't believe me when I tell her she is beautiful, any help?

I am becoming a bitter twisted individual who trusts no-one, how do I change?

I am intensely cynical about how people perceive my sensitivity. All my life I've felt like I'm not one of the guys. Starting to frustrate me :/

What does he mean by "I am way out of his league"

So my boyfriend said this earlier to me today (and has maybe said it once or twice in the past)...

What exactly do people mean by this?

Help me :(

So I met this boy a few months ago, and we got texting, and although it started off just casual, flirting etc, I realised that i started to really like him, but for various reasons there's no way we could get involved seriously at the moment,
However he started asking me to meet up a lot before christmas and i kept putting him off, because i knew myself all he wanted was something casual and no strings attached, whereas i didn't want something very casual with someone i liked (he's a few years older than me)

However, i broke things off with him a few weeks ago but now he's texting me again telling me how he does really like me and talking about 'down the line' etc..

But what i'm worried is, if i do get involved and then see that he does only want a no strings thing i won't know what to do….
Can anyone help me?? :(

i feel like a terrible person

My best friend just got asked out by a lovely guy we know, and I honestly could not be happier for her in a rational sense, but I feel so, so unhappy. Both my best friends now are dating people, and I just found out a couple of days ago that the person I've liked for two years is ****ing someone who's only been out of a relationship for a month. And I'm still coming off a horrible, soul-destroying breakup from a short relationship (the only one I've ever had).

I feel like the most selfish, horrendous person to ever walk this earth. I should be happy for my best friend, right? And yet I'm crying. And she was so, so lovely about it when she was single and I was in said short relationship, and I should be just as happy for her...I just feel so terrible that I can't be happy for her.

What do I do?

Asking someone out for the first time ever

So within the next 48 hours I'm actually going to ask out this girl I like, something I haven't done before.

Just wondered if there any tips as to what to do and what not?

The plan:

I'll have some one on one time with her, I'll make her a drink, come back and resume the conversation. I'll then ask if she's like to hangout together sometime soon*, and then I'll take it from there.
If she says yes- I'll suggest a thing to do and ask when she's free.
If no: Then I'll just say no problem and continue chatting, then after a few mins I'll move away.

*I know a lot of people say you should suggest a time and place as you ask her out, but I have zero idea when she's free (she's generally busy, we both work).
People say not suggesting a time and day means she'll find it easier to say no- but If I pick a day when's she's busy, that's just as easy to turn down.

When do you tell someone that you love them?

Hello TSR!

So, me and my boyfriend have been going out for quite a while - but neither of us has taken the step yet of saying "I love you" to the other.

I most certainly feel like I love him, but I admit that I have not dared say anything because I would rather he said it first... ((and for me saying these three words is a BIG deal))
...but he still hasn't. Sometimes I wonder if maybe he doesn't love me, but honestly I can tell that he does care about me a lot, so maybe he just doesn't know yet, or he would rather I said these three words first.

I guess my question is, when do you say "I love you" to somebody, and although I don't want to reinforce gender roles, but do you personally think the man should say this and the woman should follow, or vice versa?
Basically, do I take this step, or is there any way I could hint at my boyfriend for him to say it or something that can be done to catalyse this happening, if he does indeed love me.

xx

Advice needed - moving to another country

Hello all! I have a dilemma and its a hard one. I'm realizing that, as I write, this is hard to explain so I'll start at the beginning!

I graduated from university last July. In my final year however, I ended up meeting the most amazing and awesome girl I've met. Words, like awesome and amazing, simply understate how great this girl is (even though I just used those two words in the previous sentence lol).

We became good friends over the course of the year. She knows I like her, but I've never had the courage to make a move - I've only ever asked out one girl and she rejected me pretty badly. Anyways, this girl is from Cyprus and now she's living in Thailand, working as a teacher. Since last July I've been working on and off, nothing permanent, and I was thinking of doing my Masters this September to aid my career. However, recently I've been thinking more and more about moving to Thailand. At the moment I'm in contact with a school in Thailand regarding a science teacher vacancy. The salary is low, but then again the cost of living in Thailand is low as well.

I've always wanted to live and work aboard for a few years and there's nothing keeping me here in the UK - I'm single (obviously lol), don't have any dependents (children, relatives, etc), no mortgage, no real debt at all except income-contingent student debt, no real friends (most have moved away). And I've realized I could always do my Masters afterwards.

This is not just a relationship/dating/love issue, but it does play a part. I want nothing more than to be with this girl, but I'm not just thinking of moving to Thailand to be with her - teaching science and living aboard are two important issues as well.

So I guess my question is, even though I'll obviously end up making the final decision, what are everyone's opinions? Is this a great idea? Or is it really idiotic? Would anyone else take this leap?

Gracias de antemano (Thanks in advance)

Should I try again?

So there's this guy I dated a couple of times, it's the same story again and again, we'd go out, he'd cheat on me, we'd break up etc. I've gone back twice already to have this happen again and again. Then we go back to being just friends for a while until he asks me out again. Thing is, every time he'll say he's 'changed' and guilt trip me into giving him another go.

I have low self esteem since being bullied and I know for sure that noone else will ask me out. I'm sick and tired of being alone now, especially this time of year. I've known him for 9 years now and we're really close. Should I give him another chance, surely he'd not cheat a third time?

What are your Valentine's Day plans?

Regardless of whether you are single, in a relationship, love the day or hate the day - just curious in knowing what people are getting up to on that day. :)

When I was single I'd usually bake biscuits for all of my friends (as for me Valentine's Day = Day of Love and Friendship), though this year I (finally?) have a partner to celebrate it with, so I guess we'll have a sweet romantic evening in. :p

Friend keeps asking me why I'm not attracted to other girls?

I always respond with "no." and she always says "well, you don't know until you've tried it." I say "I'm not interested" and she keeps asking me why I won't allow myself to try anything *she claims she's interested just out of curiosity*. I've asked another friend about her history etc and she said she's only been with guys. It's making me uncomfortable and I've told her this but over the past few weeks she won't stop bringing it up. In fact, I'm avoiding being alone with her as she isn't respecting my stance. I like guys and have 0 attraction to girls. Even when I say this, she debates sexuality and says it's "not that fixed". I don't want to lose her as a friend but her advances are starting to irritate me.
