Sating friends, better or worse chance of R?

... EDIT: Topic should having been: Staying friends.... So, my soon to be ex-wife says that she wants us to remain friends. She is adamant that we will never reconcile. I feel I am roughly capable of being her friend but obviously it is not exactly the type of relationship I want with her. I was wondering what the general opinion is, does staying friends hurt the chances of R down the road or help it?
