I would firstly like to point out that I'm not gay (nor do I have a problem with gay people). I'm a student who has a part time job working and have noticed that a number of people have made assumptions that I'm gay. I suppose I'm not a 'guy's guy' as in I dont watch football and that I'm not loud and abusive (not to say every guy is but the general alpha male assumption). It's really annoying as there is a girl I like and I get the feeling that she thinks that I am gay. I grew up with a couple of sisters who I am really close and at work I tend to have more female friends. It's not that I don't want guy friends but I think the guys are perhaps afraid to be friends with a guy who is apparently gay. I don't fuss over my appearance and I do (or at least I think I do) have a soft, calm voice but certainly not a stereotypical loud and queer voice. Is there anything I can do to stop the assumptions?
