Would you be upset if I said this?

I was at work and I had a very long meeting with the staffs on a particular subject. This guy, Smith, who was a staff there, taught me how to do a particular task during the meeting. Later, this other staff, Joe, asked me how to do the particular task. I said to Joe, "Well, according to Smith, we should...", and Smith heard I mentioned his name and whatever it is I said to Joe. If you were Smith, would you be upset if I quoted your name to deliver the task? I know it's somewhat of an odd question but I presume, some people just don't like being quoted?
