Guys, when did you move from briefs to boxers?

i recently found out my new boyfriend still wears briefs. he says he just never made the switch to boxers as his mum always got him briefs. This seems a bit strange to me, i thought all lads made the switch to boxers at some point. what's the normal age to switch? anyone else not switch?
