Chemistry, what is it?

Hi Before we begin, no puns about real Chemistry, Actually want a serious answer for once no matter how hilarious the pun maybe. Can someone explain what this word means? See I thought it was simply based on attraction when you first see someone, Pheromones and what not and just an instant mutual attraction, when you feel comfortable around them even when you can't speak. But other people have told me it's how well you connect mentally rather than physically, where conversation flows and flows and you can relate to each other. See I've always thought I was just terrible an conversation with a lot of people but they're always initially attracted to me( not being cocky or arrogant, I model for a fairly large agency and it's what my friend get's them to tell him which he tells me to try and boost my low confidence...) I just don't get it, I meet gorgeous girls who are dying to get to know me and I simply can't talk to them, yes I'm sort of shy but I don't have a problem approaching someone when my friend needs a lighter for example and talking to them, just when I like someone
