I'm really amazed at the number of people who come here and describe themselves as strong willed, stubborn, or opinionated and regard that as a good thing. It's a bad thing! It's the very thing that stands in the way of introspection and the ability to communicate and compromise. Why are people proud of being stubborn? I think it's because they've learned that they eventually get their way or 'win' with that approach. The problem is they don't realize that there are repercussions for that kind of 'winning'. So what's with these 'strong willed' people? Are they not introspective by nature? Are they bullies by nature? I find it perfectly natural to hold an opinion, understand an opposing opinion, and reach a compromise. I find it perfectly natural to be persistent without being a bully. I really don't get how an intelligent person could think that being 'strong willed' is an asset. What happens when two 'strong willed' people get married? Do they kill each other? | |||
