How to determine if they are who they say they are?

My friend formed an online relationship with a group of people who all know each other and she's formed an emotional attachment with them. They claim to go to specific universities, me and a couple of friends are getting quite curious as to whether they are who they say they are. For example she has some of their numbers and she's spoken to one girl on the phone the rest she speaks just by messaging We're just very awry by this and for our benefit of the doubt we want to look out for her and see if they actually are who they say they are because a couple of them we tried ringing who she hasn't texted recently over the short span of a couple of days but it keeps going to voicemail and it just seemed odd that one of the people in that group had been texting that person. Is it possible if I give the university they are at and if someone on TSR is at that university or that course, for them to be able to find this out?
