How important is chemistry?

My boyfriend and I have been together awhile but don't really have sparks. We get along great and connect on a deep level. There is very low chemistry and I never made that an important part of my decision in being with him. I looked for qualities of how he treated me and the kids, and was glad that I finally had someone decent in my life and the kid's lives after being a single mom for 13 years. Even though sometimes he is so different from me and I don't get his younger ways at times. I love him. I appreciate him. But sometimes I find myself wondering.... is chemistry really important? Are those sparks really important?
