My boyfriend recently got a really bad flu and while his immunity was weakened, he got an outbreak of blisters on his genitals that turned out to be herpes (HSV-2 virus).
We have been together for 2 years and he is my first sexual partner, so he couldn't possibly have gotten it from me. I'm pretty sure I have the HSV-1 virus myself though, because I commonly get cold sores.
However, the HSV-1 and 2 are different strains, we could still infect each other with the ones we have, but apparently I'll probably have a strong immunity against the type 2 virus because of the type 1 virus.
Anyway, my boyfriend swears that he hasn't cheated on me, that it could be from any of his many sexual partners from 2 years ago, when he also had unprotected sex with some. I do trust him, but he's been away quite a lot recently (for valid reasons though).
Seriously, what are the odds of catching the HSV-2 virus and getting the first outbreak 2 years after? I'm not too concerned about catching it as long as we take the necessary precautions, but im concerned if he has cheated on me or not.
Put the internet to work for you.
