2 months after husband raped me.

2 months ago I was raped by my husband. Which I am slowly getting away from safely. I don't have all my affairs in order. I have only told a very close friend. It really bothered me for a few days but I moved passed it. There was a lot going on at the time. So I guess I pushed it in the back of my mind and carried on like nothing was wrong. Now 2 months later it fills like it is all hitting me again. I try and stay busy with work and my child. But like at night when I am all alone sometimes it is really getting to me. All I want to do is lay around and drink. Is this normal and how do I move past it?

Confusing guy - not sure what to think?

  • Thread Starter

I've been dating a guy for a couple of months. He seems a lovely person, but I was unsure of where we stood. Finally broached it during a (pretty drunken) conversation. I asked him if he was seeing any other girls other than me. He said no and it'd feel wrong to. I asked him if we were more than friends with benefits, he said yes. He then went on to say he'd only ever had one serious relationship in his life (he's 29) and he's been single for 3 years. He then went on to say that he hadn't been looking for a relationship when he met me, but we'd hit it off. He then started talking about how he wasn't sure he believed in soulmates/the one and said he wasn't sure he was the kind of person it applied to. I asked him if he had a problem with me being with other men (I haven't been whilst I've been with him & don't intend to for now at least) and he said if I met someone who could give me that kind of relationship (a soul mate type relationship) he wouldn't want to stan d in the way of my happiness. He also mentioned my age (I'm 22) saying that he didn't want me to feel 'stuck' with him at my age. He finished by saying he liked me a lot though and that what we have means something. But he also said that he felt like a bastard for saying the other stuff to me (about not being after a serious relationship.)

I was a bit taken aback by the conversation - I wanted to confirm that I was more than sex & a friend to him, but didn't really know where he was going with the soulmate talk since 2 months into dating someone the idea of it being a serious commitment wouldn't have even crossed my mind. I don't really feel like I got much clarity on the issue - I'm not intending on having a long term relationship since I'm leaving our city in six months, but I wanted to know that I was more than a lay (he said he had never thought of me as that) and what he saw it as.

The only reason I decided to ask him is because when we were chatting about something he said 'oh, yeah, my other girlfriends used to say that,' which seemed to implicitly imply he thought of me as a girlfriend.

Basically I'm confused and not sure what to think - how would you read his response?

He may be fine with it

I've been reading for the last year or so here about how men need women to be enthusiastic about sex for it to be a good experience for them. Without a woman's active participation, perhaps even initiation, some will just refuse it at all. She makes or breaks the experience for both of them, it seems.

I never thought that was true in my marriage, but reading here really put a question mark in my mind. Was I just clueless about my husband and his sexual satisfaction? Have I just completely overlooked this over more than two decades? Could I be just as blind in this area as I accuse my husband of being in other areas?

Self doubt on the subject crept in, settling itself on top of the ever-present layer of general insecurity . . .

So Thursday night I got mad at my husband. I didn't think he was being sufficiently sensitive about a wound from the past. We talked about it yesterday morning and I felt a little better, but even last night I wasn't really over it.

So he got home late last night and we talked a little more . . . and he started putting the moves on me. So I realize where this is headed and I don't really feel like it, but I don't really want to deny him either. I mean, we had not had sex for two days, and I knew he was hungry.

But as my feelings were still hurt from the lack of complete resolution of the aforementioned wound, I was basically just lying there, total starfish. I even turned my head to the side. Did not seem to have any impact.

So this morning I'm still upset about the other issue, plus another issue that has come up. Dh, meanwhile, is trying to scoot out the door with the kids to get them to their Saturday morning activities.

He comes home to get something mid-morning and we talk for a minute. He's got his arms around me and I'm just kind of talking into his chest. I mentioned about how I didn't think it was very good what he did last night. He said he realizes that. And then I say something like That really couldn't have been very good for you, could it?

Silence.

And then, I feel him laughing.

I look up and pull away, shocked. Then he is outright laughing!

Then I start laughing, too. He was fine with last night. I know he was!

So I have come to the conclusion that, despite what I have read here, I am not clueless about my husband. Not every man cares if the woman participates enthusiastically or not. The sensitive, romantic ones do. But brutes like mine, I guess, seem truly fine with just . . . availability.

kissing nerves

  • Thread Starter

I'm into this guy but when I first see him I'm always a little shy. Throughout the evening I'll think about kissing him, but I never pluck up the courage. Even the other night he said my lips looked kissable (this was after I asked how my lipstick looked as I wasn't sure of the color) and I just laughed it off, to be fair we were sat in a crowded bar.

Anyway at the end of the night he drove me home, we hugged and my nerves kicked in again, i sorta rejected the kiss He said he thought we had for past this stage and I think I apologized. He also asked why he always has to initiate, he didn't sound angry or anything.

So he started to play with my earrings and made small talk then moved in for a kiss which was a bit more intense then previously and he kinda cut it short. I asked how it was and he said he didn't remember and it needed to be longer. I don't know why I over think kissing, ever since he said he thought he was a good kisser it's triggered this. I don't blame him for questioning why he always has to initiate, I just don't have it in me. I'll think it but it doesn't take place.

How do I over come this?? Any tips?

Breaking frienship because of opposite point of view

  • Thread Starter

I spoke to a friend about society's influence on people, especially the idea of happiness. Recently, I changed my mind by seeing how desillusioned we could be. People use to think that perfect life is defined as house with children and marriage, job well-paid, a car and a lot of material things. I tried to explain to my friend that it was a myth created in order to assure that people are all the same ( you know, sometimes, if your friend has a boyfriend and you haven't, you would first be jealous and implicitely try to separate the couple ). She admits and agrees with a part of what I said, but...she refuses to change anything in her life ( afraid of changing things in a bad way ). So my question is : Is it Worth it exchanging your point of view even if people could be hurt by the truth ?

How do I stop womanizing? Leading girls on.

  • Thread Starter

I have never cheated on a woman and I have always shown them respect. However, in the past, I have led women on. So, basically saying things to get them excited and then when they go to put their arm around me to cuddle me or touch me, I exclaim 'on no I am being sexually abused!' (it is just a joke. However, I realise it can upset feelings. So I am seeing a girl at the moment and I really care about her and we are going on a date next week. So what should I do to curb womanizing instincts?

She is very vulnerable.

  • Thread Starter

One of my friends has been feeling quite vulnerable recently. She has just come out of the hospital where she was being treated on account of her self harming. She is very happy at the moment, wanting cuddles and being very lively. However, I know that she does suffer from depression. We are both doing our A levels at the moment and both would like to go to the same university so that is great. However, I am a bit worried that her depression will undermine her A level results. I am concerned for her, and I am willing to do my best to help her. So is there anything I can do to calm her nerves etc?

Did I do this because I was depressed, insecure?

  • Thread Starter

Ok so a while back I was at college. I moved to a new city to be in the city and going on the degree course was just an opportunity so I took it. I wanted to escape from were I was living.I never could really settle even though I loved the city. I didn't really make any friends just a couple of acquitences. For months being they I couldn't settle. I was a positive person and nice to everyone. I'm normally a happy person and self confident. I'm usually very independent and speak my mind . I work hard. One time I had a bad day, I was being ignored and and didn't feel like I was treaded as an individual. This seemed to be going on for ages and I could feel the negativity. Maybe because I had nothing in common with anyone. One time on my lunch break I bought some alcohol and hid and drank loads. I know it was silly, I have never done anything like that before.

I spoke to a therapist and explained it to them. They said I was actually being bullied. I not sure if they were right or if was over analysing or I felt vulnerable because I was one my own.

Since then I have moved on but it kinda scarred me a little of what happened to me then. I have never been like that before.

Is this normal?

How to make her birthday special?

  • Thread Starter

There is a girl at my university who I am friends with. And her birthday is coming up. She does not have many friends and I want to make sure that (hopefully not in a patronising manner!) her birthday is extra special. I have got her a necklace and some other jewellery. However, I feel like something is missing and I want to ensure that she has a really happy birthday.

Hate being on bad terms

  • Thread Starter

This guy I was seeing lead me on and completely screwed me over, he now has a girlfriend and we had a massive row over text. I said I didn't want to be on bad terms but he didn't reply to this message. I felt hurt and angry so deleted him from facebook (bit immature I know). Now I'm regretting it as I hate being on bad terms even though he hurt me, should I readd him or leave it?

Girlfriend problems!!

  • Thread Starter

About a month ago I got into a relationship with a girl (yes, I'm a girl, moving on..). I've had relationships with guys before but this is my first one with a girl so I'm very new to this. She, however, came out as a lesbian a year ago. So we're only a month in and I'm already feeling like she's not interested and distant, and it worries me because this early on we should both be excited and keen to see each other. She won't text back in the middle of conversations (especially when I bring up meeting up) and she will never initiate the conversation. In person at school she will walk straight past me if I'm with my friends and won't say hi or anything! I find it really strange, we're meant to be in a relationship?! Essentially, if I want to see her I have to seek her out and initiate everything. When we're alone together it feels normal and she's affectionate and sweet and I feel really happy. But as soon as I'm away from her the doubts creep in and I worry that s he doesn't really like me at all. Especially when I don't get any indication of obvious interest or affection 90% of the time. It just feels like I'm putting in all the work and it's making me seem really clingy and needy and desperate for attention/affection. I got out of a relationship with a guy about 6 months ago, who basically showed me little affection and kept deciding he couldn't commit etc. and I'm worried it's making me paranoid here and desperate for lots of affection and proof that she's actually interested and not just stringing me along. But the facts are that she doesn't text me first (which I know is stupid but it is an indication of wanting to talk to someone) and she just doesn't give me attention or show she cares! I know it's only a month in and I sound like I'm trying to make it very serious very early but I shouldn't be feeling this so early on surely!! Today I went to wish her good luck for something and I put my hands around her in a low hug and she j ust said "your hands are cold" and physically removed them from her waist. My friends think I'm being paranoid, but I just feel so ignored and like my efforts to show her how much I like her are being wasted on someone who doesn't feel the same way. I really want this to work but I'm really struggling to see how such a one sided relationship could. I am a strong believer in if someone wants to be a part of your life they will make an obvious effort to do so. I know how ranty and clingy I must sound but it's something that's really been playing on my mind and upsetting me and I'm just not sure how to go about this.
Sorry for babbling, just need some friendly advice on what I can do if anything!

How can I explain to her how I'm feeling?
Am I pushing her away by being too keen and affectionate?
How can I get her to show me more affection (I cannot express how stoic this girl can be sometimes I'm not just desperate for love!)?
Is the relationship doomed considering its early days and I'm already having doubts?
