hellllpppppp.....relationship with a muslim

Hi guys.....im seriously losing the will to live here...iv been secretly seeing a muslim guy for almost a year now.......im head over heals for him and he says he feels the same...he treats me like a queen and is an absolute gentleman...however, the issue is his family...i know i will never be accepted by them and he has explained briefly why and has been totally upfront about it from day one....can somebody please explain all this muslim culture stuff as i really dont get it....iv had people tell me that they have to have so many wives and allsorts.....it really is driving me to distraction :( thanks in advance
