Long story short, a local guy who is of the same heritage as half my family has proclaimed to other young adults that he will marry me. He apparently told his friends he plays football with, who told their sisters and it spread like wildfire. This devalues me in the community as once all the mothers catch on, they may not want a share. A bit like Chinese whispers, it's now out there amongst the teens that we were once involved. I haven't seen him in over 10 years. I'm pissed. Already being half white, my demand is low. I'll be associated with him for a long while after this. One of my cousins told me that he threatened him for being disrespectful and the guy apologised. However, another cousin told me that he heard rumours about him saying more things too (I have many, many cousins).
It may not sound like a big deal but culturally this kind of thing is a big no no. My aunts have deployed their gossip spreading skills and told women in the area that I'm clean and pristine. This will still linger though. What can I do? The fact that he went around saying more things about me/my looks/ our future together blah blah creeps me out. I mean we're both over 18 and haven't seen one another (he may have seen me out and about) in over 10 years! Damn it, man!
