I'll try to make this as brief as it can be, but I am so tired of this.
When I grew up, there were no gender roles regarding housework. Everyone pitched in when they could (my dad was a long-haul trucker) and he sis 90% of the work when he was home, which was once every 6 months or so.
My husband's family, was apparently very gender role specific. His mom did all the housework (she enjoyed it) and his dad worked, and she took care of him.
I'm getting fed up with having our apartment looking like a disaster zone. I've been trying to organize, every time I get the house looking spotless or close to it, the entire family just walks all over it. I had to ask my husband to clear the dishes from the dinner table the other night, and he did his own. I notice this happens quite frequently.
He works outside of the home and I have a business I am TRYING to start, but it involves me needing the kitchen clean in order to work.
I also take care of our two kids full-time (ages 2 and 9) I do all of the care during the day and about 95% of it nightly.
It wouldn't bother me so much if people would put their dishes in the sink after dinner, etc. but I am consistently picking up glasses, garbage and whatnot that has been left for me to do.
There is no outside work to be done since we live in an apartment. I cook 90% of the dinners, and I am stck cleaning up after 95% of the dinners.
I'm mentally and physically worn out, stressed out and since my husband brings in 100% of the money right now (minus when I have craft shows) I can't complain because it'll result in an argument if he even mentions that I don't work. (It's happened before many times)
Sometimes when he asks me what my "fantasies" are, I can't tell him because it involves making my way to the nearest airport and heading somewhere far far away where there are no kids, no husband, and no chores.
I am not the "cleanest" person, and when it comes to housework, I HATE it. But I still do it, and when he has an issue with me, for example putting my makeup away after I use it, instead of leaving it on the sink, I picked up my socks and now after about 2 weeks, it is now a habit for me to put my makeup away after I use it.
Thank you for letting me vent, and if you have any tips for me, please leave them.
