Social Life Differences

Hello all. I'm brand new to the forum and always looking to improve myself and my knowledge.

A brief background on myself. I'm 28 years old and my wife, who is 33, and I have been together for 5 years, married for 3 and a half. We don't have any children, just a dog and a cat. I'd say our marriage is going very well, however, there is a slight issue that I've noticed that is troubling.

Where I work, there are many people around my age that like to go out for social outings i.e. pub crawls, camping trips, etc. Where my wife works, she is pretty much the only woman without kids and under the age of 55. What this has resulted in is my having a good size group of work friends (4-7) and her not really knowing anyone in the small town we live in. I should mention that I'm in the military and we've been here only 2 years.

The issue comes up when my friends from work invite me to an outing such as a weekend camping trip. My wife isn't a big fan of camping, I've asked her to come along before and she's said no. I feel guilty going off to have fun with my friends for the weekend while my wife sits at home alone to take care of the dog. In the past I've even offered to pay for the dog to go to doggy day care and get her a weekend spa package so she can enjoy that while I'm camping. She's always just told me not to worry about it, she'll just watch TV.

My wife told me today that she's getting irritated with me wanting to go out with friends while she sits at home along watching the pets.

I've tried to find local meetup groups for activities that we can both get involved with but she's not really interested in going out to do things.

I'm not sure what to do here. It just seems that my wife wants to sit inside and watch TV on the weekends, which don't get me wrong, sometimes a weekend of doing nothing is great, but I enjoy going out to do things also.

Should I feel guilty going out to have fun with friends while she sits at home if I've invited her to come along and she said no?

Part of me wishes she had friends to go spend a weekend outing with without me so things would be more balanced.

Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
