Whilst it is clear that JC needed to be repremanded for assaulting his producer, I do think that, as James May indicated; the whole incident has been blown out of proportion.
JC was on his last and final warning from the BBC. With his departure I hope the BBC suffers big time.
We all live in a world that has become too politically correct. Traditionally the British have made jokes about the Irish, the Americans about the Polish etc. It is all part of life.
There was one episode where the three of them drove through a certain (I forget which) southern state in the USA...saying football sucked, saying its OK to be gay etc...its all about taking life a little bit less seriously.
We all have to be able to laugh at ourselves and indeed others. JC has jibed at all sorts of nationalities, makers of vehicles, you name it, he's taken the pi$$ out it or them!
Fortunately I live in an African country were political correctness is not what it is in Europe. Radio stations take the 'mickey' out of the Indian population and their accent, likewise the British and indeed their own kind. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and take jokes about yourself.
If any of the comments JC made on Top Gear were truly offensive, the BBC - probably the most politically correct broadcaster in the world - would have edited the comments out.
How silly the Argentinians got upset about the Top Gear team doing a show in Argentina where the registration number of a car was H982FKL....because it seemingly referred to 1982 and the Falkland Islands war.....which the Argentinians invaded and tried to take over....and the British defended them (successfully). Come on!! It was 23 years ago! Get a life!
Anyway....just wanted to rant...we all need to be able to take a 'joke' as well as give a 'joke'.
I think TopGear will die now because it was the three presenters who made it the success it was. Jeremy Clarkson and the other two presenters have probably already received fantastic job offers elsewhere! Good for them.
BBC - get real.
