what to do when your crush isnt 'good' with his phone?

so ive been friends with this guy for 4 years, and ive sort of had a crush on him for a while but now im looking to see if itll lead to a relationship, we were always chatty but ive always known him to be bad with his phone,like it would be broken for months,lost chargers,doesnt charge it etc, and now,through the amazing whatsapp its easy to see if hes going through a period of not having his phone switched on but the problem is its much harder to get in contact with him more than we usually would to arrange things

any advice on how to get around this?
