Guy I like invited me to his birthday party

There's a guy I'm really interested in. He has shown interest in me and we started messaging back on fourth until he backed off and then I just left it. But then about a week later he invited me to his birthday which I take as a good sign as he doesn't know me well at all and could have easily just not have invited me. Anyway, his birthday is next week and I guess I would just like some tips on how to get him to notice me and to hold his interest. There will be about 30 other people there and other girls obviously. I generally stand out in a room as I'm apparently attractive and 'striking' looking but I'm also very shy and can't imagine approaching him, even after a few drinks. He's shy himself and also seems to have problems talking to me. But he is very attractive and I know other girls won't be hesitate to talk to him. So I guess I would just like to know the best way to hold his interest/make him more interested in me. And yes I am aware I'll probably need to speak to him! Also, I only know a couple of other people who will be there and very wary of the idea of turning up there by myself, could be pretty awkward :/ Any tips? Thanks
