Would it be rude if I read my book at work during my lunch hour? We have a communal kitchenette which most of the people (about 10 of us) share. There are a lot of nice people but there are two or three, who also happen to senior, who are really irritating. They listen in on private conversations, butt in and will also repeat what you say to the manager and boss (and no, they are just everyday convos like your pets). Our manager also comes over and talks about work during our break. I am very introverted and want some peace for an hour. Would it be rude if I read my book in the kitchenette?
I could drive home but it would be doubling my fuel bill and stressful with managing to drive back to work without being late. I could sit in my car but if someone spots me in the carpark it would be awkward... If I am honest, I think I am going to be laid off soon. I have been at work for 5 weeks now 'training' because the new contracts haven't been confirmed and my manager literally said to me that they are pinning their hopes on me and my work maintaining the contract they are tending for. All the senior staff did the trial run/samples for the new contract and basically stuffed it up. My manager said that I didn't need any more training on the publishing software we use after 3 days of training. I am looking for new jobs but I want to join the police fast track/civil service.
Any advice (on either) would be appreciated.
Put the internet to work for you.
