Who here has eaten Okra in the last week?

I fried some last night, and the old okra jokes popped back in my head. I think it has gained popularity in the last 20 years, with the frozen okra in stores, but it still has that reputation of being strictly Southern, redneck, hick, etc.

I think it is because it does not travel well at all. If not refrigerated, it won't last long. The breaded, frozen stuff is OK, but nothing like fresh.

We actually grill it more than frying, now. Just caught on to that a few years ago, its excellent that way.

If you're not familiar with okra, it is in peak season right now. Loves hot weather like crazy.
