Why is she ignoring me? (LONG)

OK, this is a long story but I'll try and keep it a short as possible...

So there's this girl that I've liked for quite a while, I first met her a few years ago on a night out with my friends and although I thought she was really pretty I was in a relationship at the time so nothing happened, although I did get her number.

We ended up speaking quite a bit and got rather friendly, after a few months she gets into a relationship with some guy blah blah blah... After she'd been with him a while it was clear that the relationship was very toxic, he used to hit her about and she kept breaking up with him only to get back together a few days later. Coincidentally, me and my then girlfriend were also in a rough patch, she was sending pictures to this guy (Yes those kind of pictures) and consequentially we went on a break. I decided to have a lads night out with all of my friends and she happened to be out that night too... We ended up kissing in a club and went down a quiet street to talk and ended up kissing some more. When walking back to the club to meet my friends her boyfriend comes out of nowhere and it all ends up in some huge scrap where he got taken away in a police van and spent the night in the cells. The police let me go as they watched the CCTV footage and saw that he attacked me a nd that I was just defending myself. They asked me if I wanted to press charges to which I said no, even though she was practically begging me to press charges as he was on his final warning for fighting. She was all over me all night, wouldn't let me out of her sight and was being rather clingy but in a good way. I ended up resolving the issues with my girlfriend and she took him back again. However we were both still unhappy in our respective relationships and would talk to each other about how we wish we could just run away and leave everything behind and we became very close. We got to the point where we would text from first thing in the morning, all day until one of us fell asleep at night and then carry on the conversation the next day. This went on for a few months. During this time I went to Manchester with all of the boys for a friends birthday and they were all giving the banter of how I'm not allowed to mention her name because she's all I went on about and it wa s clear that we both liked each other. So while we were there, early hours of the morning, wrecked out of our skulls she'd been trying to ring me, but I didn't hear my phone. Next thing I know my friend is calling me outside saying she's on the phone crying her eyes out asking for me. She'd been at a family party with her bf and he went all psycho and drove off in her car, then dragged her in the car driving down country lanes at high speed saying he was going to kill the both of them.

Anyway they ended up splitting for good after he beat her up so badly that she needed to go to the dentist because he smashed her face up that badly. I split with my girlfriend about 6 months later.

Since then we haven't been as close as we were, I kind of backed off to give her some space, which she no doubt needed and got in another relationship which was rather short lived about 9 months after.

What's really weird is that for the past year or so she's been blowing hot and cold, when I text her it's like playing roulette. Sometimes she doesn't reply at all and blatantly ignores me. She text me last Thursday and I decided to play her at her own game and ignore her, only to get a text exactly 24 hours later saying "Oi" . We then had this huge conversation until the early hours about nothing in particular, but it made me feel so good. No one has made me laugh like that in such a long time, she even suggested we go to the cinema next time I'm back from uni. But then when I text her the other night she just blatantly ignored me even though I could see that she'd read my text.

She does get a lot of attention from meat head steroid taking poser types because she is extremely pretty and while I'm not bad looking they could snap me like a twig so I don't know if she's getting better offers or if it's something else.

The thing is, although she's easily a 9/10 on the looks scale I find her personality captivating, she's intelligent, has a good job as an accountant and to top it all it feel as though she's the female version of me, we really do just click. She has me hanging on her every word and I've truly never met anyone like her. Even my best friend said that we'd be a good match because we're both so quirky and eccentric.

My main concern is that I don't want to get hurt but I can't read her at all! Are there any females out there that could possibly shed some light on this for me?
