how to STOP someone talking to YOU

Hi guys theres this guy in my year university and he has no real friends and he is the most frank person ever. But the problem is im annoyed becaused everytime he talks to me he comes out with harsh comments and hes one of those people who never accepts anyones opinion (bearded islamist type) I dont know how to avoid him because ive tried being friendly with him but it seems thats just his nature...the problem is i spend long hours in pain from some of his comments. what should i do and yes he is sort of my friend but only because he always wants to talk to me as he has noone else really.
