I am sensing some animosity from my family that I got into Oxford. Initially, they seemed rather proud; my mother went on about how pleased she was for quite some time.
However, I have recently noticed behaviour that seems to suggest my family are bitter. The other day, at Sunday lunch, when I told my family about Oxford's prestigious history, its nobel prize winners and the history of my college in particular, my uncle sniggered and rolled his eyes. On another occasion, I noticed that my 'University of Oxford' hoodie had a red wine stain on it. I don't drink red wine, and my mother washed that hoodie amongst other clothes, so I suspect that she may have spilt some wine on the hoodie purposefully. I have become certain of her attitude as she recently removed my Oxford acceptance letter that had been magnetically attached to the fridge door. When I asked her why she did this, she said that it cannot stay there forever.
Has anyone else from Oxford experienced this sort of bitterness and animosity from their family? Most of my family went to non-Oxbridge Russell Group universities. What should I do about it?
Put the internet to work for you.
