To give a bit of background, I'm a British born Indian guy, muslim (Not all that strict, don't drink or eat bacon/ham, eat halal however don't pray five times a day as well). My girlfriend is white, we started dating a few months ago at uni, it kind of just happened, anyway the city that I study in has relatively few S.Asians and/or muslims and I didn't feel awkward walking through the streets holding her hands. However back home whenever I go to meet her, I keep getting stares, I feel I'm being judged for literally walking, talking and holding her hand. It makes me really uncomfortable. I've even had a few people make comments like "You should be ashamed of yourself" or "What would your parents think". I get very tempted to confront these people as it pisses me off but don't as my girlfriend doesn't like drawing much attention to herself and if I was to confront them, no doubt it would make a scene.
I have no idea what to do, on the one hand I don't want to stop going out in public with her because of this but on the other I don't want to be judged and have snide little comments thrown at me.
Put the internet to work for you.
