Does anyone else say 'hi' to people they dislike just to be nice only to get ignored?

Or even if not ignored you are reminded during the interaction why you dislike them, or may be treated as 'inferior' by said person :S

I don't know why I do this though it's been a habit for longer than I can remember :/

Any ideas as to why this happens?
