Worried that my friend is going to be very let down...

A friend of mine is hosting a New Year's Eve party, and seems to be going to lengths to make sure it will be an entertaining night, and one to remember.

I am in a group of 8 friends, and we've been friends for over 10 years, and often socialise together, in a full group, or smaller groups.

I can't make it to her party for work reasons, but for some reason, majority of the others just don't want to go.

They think it'll be rubbish and childish and they'd rather be out in clubs and bars getting drunk, even though there is nothing to stop them getting drunk there.

However, she isn't aware of the fact that they aren't going, despite the fact that it's just one week away, and this party has been arranged since October.

They are currently telling her to her face that they are going, whenever she asks, and it pains me because you can hear the excitement in her voice when she talks about the party.

But whenever she's not around, they say that nobody is going. I'm disappointed in them, because while I'm not her closest friend there (I have nothing against her, just that others in the group are more best friends with her) and these best friends are the ones who've decided this.

I'm not sure if they will end up going because they feel bad, but in any case I feel bad for her, I think they need to make a decision as soon as possible.

I don't want her to be buying food etc. for extra people for no reason, or to be hurt and upset when her own best friends don't want to go to her party.

I don't want them to go either because they think they won't have a better offer. I've spoken to a couple of the group individually about it explaining my concerns, and one of them said she was going to go, but another talked her out of it.

Should I tell the party host myself? I'm not going to see them at all until January, but maybe I could send out a group email or something explaining that I think they're being unfair?

What would others do in this situation? Thanks in advance.
