I was traveling for work, so my wife told me about it. We're RCC but TBH I'm not that hardcore into it anymore as of late. I'm seriously questioning if God is real or not. Still haven't decided. But regardless, the guy was FOS no matter what approach he would take. He told my son that if you died today, that you would go straight to hell. I know that's their schtick because it's the typical tripe you hear from an OSAS believing church. Even when I was more strongly in the Christian camp, I never believed OSAS was a valid belief since it does deny someone from having free will - which is clearly stated in the bible numerous times that man was given free will. If you are an OSAS believer, then you can pray your sinner's prayer at a moment in the past - truly believe it at the time - later cast away your faith to become an atheist - and you're still saved no matter what??? Bullsh!t. I already know the comeback: "Well, when that person knelt to say the sinner's prayer, deep down he/she didn't truly believe it or didn't do it right".... What? Does that NOT throw out the "assurance of salvation" that the Baptists/non-denoms constantly preach about? It's a huge contradiction for sure. BTW, I spoke to this guy before. He knows his bible, but he cannot think critically. I asked him some poignant questions like "how do you know which faith is the true one since so many religions that claimed the bible to be their sole source of religious doctrine continue to splinter into ever smaller groups?" I've even asked about the age of the world, and how two strong bible believing people can come to different conclusions after being assured by the gifts of the Holy Spirit that they would have the interpretation of the passage automatically unlocked for them? I hate to say it, but I get quite bemused when I talk to a hardcore baptist, Jehovah's Witness or other non-denom's. | |||
