Wife is 23 and scared of the dark... and EVERYTHING

Heya friends.

If you're a detective or some kind of super-genious, you might have gathered from the title that my wife is indeed a bit of a fraidy cat.

Well, I shouldn't put it that way. She's a tiny 4-foot-something girl in this big 'ole scary world. It was fine while I was a student, since we were staying on campus with excellent security and I was home all the time.

Now, though, we've moved into a house and I work nights sometimes. She hasn't stayed alone at night... ever. It's not a phobia or anything, but she got babied a little by her mom, who let her sleep in bed with her until she was out of high school (!!!) whenever she got scared. One of her older sisters is absolutely obsessed with ghosts/demons/etc.... in fact, she makes a living off of a website sharing paranormal stories. So my wife caught a lot of scary ghost stories growing up.

Is there anything I can tell her to make her feel more secure at home alone, especially at night? I don't own a gun (I want one, they're expensive though!) so if a person broke in we couldn't shoot him... but our house is in a decent location and nobody scary is around, really. As for the ghosts/demons/whatever else, all I know to tell her is that I've never seen one and neither has she, so we may as well assume they don't exist or are harmless or something. :/ That's a bit lame, since I believe in a spirit world of some kind, and I can't just quote Richie Dawkins and claim I know everything about the metaphysical universe, lol.

What do you guys think? Any advice? It's turning into a bit of a problem, because she has to wake up at 6:00AM, and if I don't get home 'till 11 or 12 at night she's gonna be dead tired the next day.
