How hurt would you be

My friend confided in me something her husband said shortly after they were married. They are happy in their marriage. They had dated for 4 years and she moved to his country to be with him. She was on a work sponsored visa and she said the rules had changed and the company could no longer sponsor her so she had to leave the country. She thought they were going to get married anyway as they had talked about it some but he said he wasn't ready yet. What happened was he didn't want her to leave so they got married. Then she told me that about a month after they were married he told her he wouldn't have gotten married if that hadn't happened; that he wasn't planning on getting married. I was really surprised. She said she was really hurt when he said that and it made her think that their relationship was a lie and he was just stringing her along. She said they are fine now but I am wondering how hurt would you be if your spouse said that to you?
