As I have been bettering my body through weight lifting, I began focusing on hand grip strength. I got a guitar player hand grip strengthener and have been using it throughout the day. I use a towel in the shower, twisting it and squeezing it under the water. I do finger tip pushups and use specific finger twist strengthening exercises to get the small muscles in between the fingers stronger. As a result my forearms have grown and my grip is much stronger. This along with increasing Alpha behaviors has led me to be much more handshake aware. Wow, so much information is in the handshake.
I visited an old friend who was living in a gated community. I was swimming in the community pool. A rather large gentleman approached me and began a conversation about a person on the other end of the pool he didn't know. I realized he was actually checking ME out... who I was and why I was there. I beat him to the punch and volunteered the who and the why. He smiled then put his hand out and said his name. He had a glint in his eye. I took his hand, slide mine deeply into his so he couldn't do one of those finger squeezes and I clamped down gently, meeting his firmness. He then looked into my eyes and squeezed. He was a strong guy... I immediately sensed what he was doing... trying to test my "alpha-ness". I met his squeeze with a hard quick clampdown. His eyes widened, he smiled and we became friends.
I have noticed the complicated interaction that happens just prior to and during a handshake now.
Anyone else have handshake experiences like this?
