Social and Ignore Reminder

I'm not sure up to this point how much mods have been aware, but - there's drama brewing in the Social Section. I've always gotten the feeling that like the Political forum, the purpose there is to curtain off-topic posts and discussions to keep them off the regular boards. And to allow members a place to relax.

Rather than use the ignore function, or to stay away from Social if people don't enjoy it, it seems people want to express to the OPs of some Social threads (either on the thread, or via PM apparently) how much they don't like the thread, until it's deleted. Even if the thread has had postings by mods and thus I'm guessing not seen to be against any type of rules.

So at this point, you have threads that have had some of the most insightful, funniest comments I've read on TAM, a joy to read, liked by dozens of members, with 100s if not thousands of posts simply gone because one or a few people don't like them.

I personally think this is getting out of hand. My only suggestions would be:

- A reminder, on the Social board about the "Ignore" feature. That if people don't like posts by a certain poster, they can ignore them.

- That if people don't like a topic in general but it isn't against the rules - they should walk away from the thread, not stir up drama about it

- Make Social and maybe the Politics sections join by request rather than available by default. So that people who aren't interested and don't like them don't have to have anything to do with it.
