I saw in another thread that the Sony ICD PX333 is well-regarded. It's around $50 at Amazon.
Sony ICD-PX312 also well-regarded but discontinued. A seller at Amazon lists it for sale for $245 (I think they are taking advantage of having old stock to sell to suckers), in the photograph it looks just like the PX333.
These look like nice instruments. But I've also seen much smaller ones that are comparable to a USB memory stick. Typically about 1/2 the price of the PX333 although price shouldn't be an object here.
How are these compared to the Sony's? There is much less hardware to them so that would explain the lower price. They don't take flash cards for expandable memory, no LCD display screen, no multiple buttons for control, etc. But they are way smaller than these Sonys. And most of them seem to have gotten very good reviews at Amazon. The biggest benefit is their extremely small size.
