A general question here, with a specific reason.
How common is marriage counselling in the US?
I ask as my wife (from the USA) and I are having regular sessions with an MC. My wife would acknowledge that married life is not going well at all.
However, she always speaks in the context that I would never leave. Her main priority is going to college.
I always though of seeing an MC as a sign that the marriage is in serious danger.
Plain speaking is not always giving a better understanding, it MC very common is marriages without it being seen as a sign that there is a serious problem.
