I can't forget him

I met a guy through mutual friends who travelled quite far a few times for nights out with us all but everyone kept telling me he only came to see me. We got on really well and had lots in common. The last time I saw him he said we should swap numbers. I have not seen or heard off him since and that was 6 weeks ago. I just feel really down and upset, I know I didn't know him that well but we clicked and he was my type which is rare to find. I just don't get why he went off the scene, mutual friends have said he is still single. Others have said he might be strapped for cash as he has a mortgage. I would love to see him again but don't know if contacting him is me trying to pursue him. Should I forget him?
