Conscience Dilemma

Because I do separate science GCSE, my class has to stay behind after school to have a weekly lesson to cover the extra topics. My school day finishes at 3:15 and these lessons don't start until 3:30 so we're always hanging around in the lab for a few minutes.

So today I had biology; my biology teacher isn't the greatest teacher in the world but she's a really nice person, however some people in my class really dislike her. Whilst we were all in the lab waiting for my teacher to arrive for the lesson, two boys from my class broke the VGA cable that goes from the projector to my teacher's laptop, and moved the projector really badly out of position.

I sit next to this projector, so when the teacher arrived, she asked me to plug the cable into her laptop, and of course it didn't go in because they'd bent all of the prongs from inside. So my teacher left and got the head of biology, who had been teaching in the lab the lesson before, to come and look at the cable. The head of biology then said that there was a boy who was sitting in my seat the lesson before who was on report (near expulsion), so it must have been him, and then went on to email the Assistant Head.

So these boys in my class got away with it, didn't say anything and just looked a bit sheepish and cocky for the rest of the lesson; and the boy who was on report who did nothing might get suspended because he was on his last warning.

I have a really strong conscience so don't really know what to do, because I don't want the innocent boy to be punished, but at the same time I don't want to be seen as a snitch.
