Another question for tech experts

I've never "backed up a hard drive" in my life.

My aging laptop is starting to give me problems and before it dies completely, I need to get some stuff saved (I also think getting stuff off it might make it work better). Mostly, my teenage daughter's photographs (she's really into photography now).

Yesterday I started the process of moving it all to Google Drive, but very quickly reached my Google limit. Had no clue I was that close, and now I'd have to pay for more. I have over 37,000 emails in my Gmail, but I'd rather not delete them since I use Gmail as a sort of diary of my life lol. I don't really delete anything but spam, etc. and I quite frequently search for old emails, etc.

Besides the photos, what I have on my hard drive is minimal. Some documents, but not many at all. I have some stuff saved for work but most of it can be deleted. I work full time on this laptop, but all of my work is on the internet so what's saved is minimal.

Please advise on what would be best for me. Thank you!
