Men mentoring men

Recently, I was in touch with a family that was on case load. A single mother raising her, at the time, 13 year old son. They lived in a bad neighborhood so the boy spent his free time playing video games. Running around with neighborhood kids was out of the question. I worked on finding this really smart well spoken kid a man who could mentor him. Found one, but it didn't work out. By the time I left the agency, the kid still hadn't found another mentor.

He's 18 now. Dropped out of HS. Rough school, even tougher on a kid that was so sheltered. He doesn't work, but he's not a trouble maker either. He's just lost.

If this kid had had a man to mentor him, he would have managed to stay in school because he would have had a man to teach him how to be a man. He would have been shown the skills to cope with peers from a man's perspective, not his mothers. He would have been exposed to other worlds, other possibilities, other past times.

There are men on this board who have successful marriage who stick around to help out the younger men navigate their marriages.

I just wanted to say, thank you!
