CHILDREN or CHILD-FREE?

My wife and I are at the point in our lives where we need to decide whether or not to have kids. She is quickly approaching the age where she would not be comfortable going through childbirth. Certainly adoption could be a future option, but we certainly wouldn't want to go through parenting at too old an age anyway and would prefer our own naturally born children.

Our default is to be childless and continue our momentum. Neither of us wants kids (just yet at least) and certainly don't want to have them unless we know we are ready. Though the general concept of being a parent is also appealing to us and is something we haven't completely given up on for the future (when, and if, we are ready).

Though if we wait too long, we won't be able to make the choice. So time has forced us to choose now to either take on the challenge of parenthood or pass up on it altogether. We have talked and researched the positives and negatives of both, but I am looking for other perspectives/input you all might have.

Particularly, what are the disadvantages/regrets we may have if we choose to not have children? Though any perspectives, experience, and/or regrets you could share from any angle about whatever you decided in your life would be appreciated. Thank you for your input.
