Summary: He wants it FB official, I on the other hand, am not so sure ...
So a month and a half ago the guy who I had been seeing for about 6 months tells me he wants to be exclusive in our long distance relationship- fine. We had taken a break for three months over the summer because we figured it wouldn't work, but things changed a couple of months ago when he got in touch again.
Anyway now that we are together he keeps telling me he wants to be my boyfriend on facebook. He is 30, I am 23. I used to be an avid facebook user but not so much anymore. He has never been an avid user himself but he has asked me on three occasions now to "make it official". However, I am quite a private person. I've grown up with my parents who have never had a good relationship and constantly threatening divorce.
This is the first relationship with someone who I am really happy with and I don't want to jeopardise things by putting a label on it and "making it official." I am incredibly fond of this guy and he makes me so happy but I can't help but wonder why it is so important to him. Why does everyone else have to be included in mine and his relationship? Is it because he doesn't trust me? I trust him entirely, and I thought that one of the main reasons this relationship was working out so well so far was because we were on the same page and we trusted and respected each other. He has never been big into social media. Why is it so important to him suddenly to "officialise" it? It kind of ruins it for me, and it puts more pressure on everything, as if there is some sort of disaster waiting to happen.
I'm willing to do it but there's something about it I don't feel comfortable with and I recognise it shouldn't even be a big deal. If I don't agree to doing it most likely he will think I want to be single or that I want to hide my relationship. That couldn't be further from the truth- It's just going so well that I don't want to impose anything that might ruin it...
What is the logic behind him wanting to officialise it on facebook, and do you think he might take it the wrong way if I say no?
