Reporting a hacked email to the police?

I received an email saying that my someone has 'unsuccessfully' attempted to hack my email account. I know it's my boyfriend of 3.5 weeks because he uses an Apple computer and location of the IP address tells me that the person who attempted to access my email was from the same place as where he's from, using Safari. If I reported the unsuccessful hack attempt to the police would they act on it? My boyfriend keeps saying it's not him, but I know it is.
