Asking out a shop assistant?

Any advice? There's this super-cut girl in my local corner shop, and she's probably seen me in there a few times a week for the last few months. Been wanting to talk to her for ages but don't want to be a hassle. Someone said the best thing to do is start with small talk so she's more familiar, and then go from there. Even so, what to say? I've not done the whole small talk thing in years. I'd love to just give her my number and leave it in her court but I don't wanna seem creepy, especially as she's a few years younger than me. Advice?
