Money Talk - How much do you spend on food?

My H and I recently shifted how we manage our money for the purposes of accelerating debt payoff on our remaining houses. It has been an eye opening experience studying and changing our shopping habits around food. We used to hover around $1000 to $1200 a month and there are only three of us. We ate out all the time, didn't look at prices, I never couponed, just went and got whatever whenever. Now that we are being strategic and shopping sales, stacking coupons and cooking at home more, we have shaved our food budget down to between $400 and $500 a month including household supplies. I think we can get it lower, but we hit up against that lifestyle/stamina thing. Made me wonder where everyone falls on this continuum of money management vs life style choices. What do you aim for in a food budget? Does it matter to you? What are your favorite ways to save?
