My sister has gotten into uni at UCL. We come from a Pashtun background and so it is common for women to be hidden in our culture. E.g. I cannot keep a photo of me and my sister on my iPhone, infact I get shouted at if I even take one with her! She cannot go out by herself apart from to college and come back.
And so when my sister got into uni at UCL my parents immediately started organising who should "go" with her. I asked my sister just quickly how she felt about it and she said it was making her depressed. But since I haven't asked her as she won't talk about it. Anyway - my dad is now going to be living with her in london to "protect" her because she is a wurki "girl".
There is no talking them out of it we already know and so I guess she'll have to live with this, because it would be dangerous for her to leave our family, she might get beaten up. Also she has been indoctrinated also to believe that she should never do it and to do so would be ungrateful. So I know she wouldn't. Honestly the only way her mind can be changed is by herself. I can't do it.
We all aren't allowed facebook either or social networks.
