I don't understand these two girls

  • Thread Starter

Let's call these two girls Jesse and Jane. These two girls are best friends; I see them nearly everyday at the library (during term time, at my university). Jesse is the one that used to, occasionally, act shy when she bumps into me on campus: She used to look at the ground and blush if she saw me walking past. But, the vast majority of the time, Jesse gives me the blank (almost death-like) stare, whenever I look at her.

Last year, Jane spoke to me for the first during last year's summer ball (she initiated). At the end of the conversation, she kissed me on the cheeks. She was sober, too (she told me that she's teetotal). I tried not to look into it too much because I wasn't the only guy she kissed on the cheeks that night. When I saw Jane again, during the beginning of the 2013/2014 academic year, she ignored me as if I didn't exist. In fact, every time I saw her at the library, she would blank me.

On the last day of the 2013/2014 academic year, Jesse spoke to me for the first time (she initiated). After the end of the conversation, she kissed me on the cheeks (just like Jane, she does this with everyone). Yesterday, I bumped into both Jesse and Jane (in the library). I smiled at Jesse, and she competently blanked me.

Why would both of them talk to me with enthusiasm, only to ignore me later on? I was hoping to become friends with Jesse, but it doesn't look like she wants anything to do with me. Should I just keep my distance with both of them?
