Having an abortion but he's not there for me

  • Thread Starter

Before I start I'd like to make it clear I know every one has different views on abortions- and I respect that many people on this forum won't like my decision. However, I am not trying to start a 'pro-life' or 'pro-choice' debate. Having an abortion is right for me at this point in my life and there is no way I would be able to bring up the child when I can barely bring up myself. I hope that I do not get any abuse for my decision.

I'm 19, and I have been with my boyfriend for three years. I always use protection however something must have happened without us knowing because we recently discovered I am pregnant. I am 19 and going into my second year of university so I believe there is no way I could bring a child into this world- not only would it not be fair on me, but it would not be fair on the child as it would not be wanted and I can barely afford to feed myself let alone care for a baby.

I have chosen to have an abortion. I previously thought I wasn't far along in the pregnancy, however I have discovered that I must have the surgical rather than the medical procedure for my abortion. I am terrified about the whole thing, but I know this is the right decision for me.

My boyfriend also wants me to have an abortion, he didn't even want to consider the other options. However I thought he would be around more to support me and be there for me. He is barely speaking to me and refuses to even look me in the eye. He won't ring, he won't call and he won't meet up with me. He is going out with our friends all the time, but if I'm around he won't turn up. When he does infrequently reply, it is a one word blunt answer- he gets very angry if I question his behaviour. I feel completely unwanted and unloved, I have done nothing to deserve this behaviour.

I don't know what I can do. My boyfriend does not understand how upset or afraid I am, and he is refusing to even message me now. I'm very upset by his actions, and it's making me doubt our relationship. If he can't be there with me through difficult times, how are we going to last at all.

Is there anything I can do or say to make him realise how scared I am? Or anything I can do or say to make him at least talk to me, because he won't even do that.

Thank you for your time
